The Road Creek: About Us

THE ROAD CREEK CHURCH OF CHRIST

It matters to whom we turn and to whom we listen. If we turn to the wrong person or thing, our soul will be eternally lost. If we listen to the wrong instructions, the outcome will be separation from God. We offer you these words as a means of directing you to the right person and the right instructions. To accomplish this, we introduce you to the Road Creek church of Christ by describing her teaching and practice. In this way, you will not only get to know the Road Creek church of Christ but will also be able to examine her, to see if she is teaching and practicing truth.

Her Organization

The Road Creek church of Christ is an independent church. An independent church does not receive contributions from another church nor does it contribute to another church.

Being independent also means that she is autonomous. The term means, ?self-governing.?

There is a sense in which no church is self-governing, that is, we fall under the rule of Jesus Christ [JAMES 4:12; EPHESIANS 1:22-23; 1:18; MATTHEW 28:18-20]. He is the only one who has legislative powers over the body of Christ.

However, the church is self-governing in the sense that she rules over her own affairs and does her own work. There is no other body (be it Pope, council, synod, or even another church) which issues directives for her to obey or solicits funds from her to perform a work. Her internal decisions are made locally, by her, and not by another. Her leaders act as stewards in her behalf and answer only to the Road Creek church of Christ.

Her Doctrine

At Road Creek, the New Testament is accepted as being the complete standard of authority in religious matters today. According to the New Testament, Christ is said to be the lawgiver [EPHESIANS 4:7-16; 5:24]. It also teaches that the Holy Spirit was the avenue through which the Law of Christ was revealed [1 CORINTHIANS 2:10-13; EPHESIANS 3:1-6]. Contained within the New Testament is the apostles teaching which instructs Christians in all things that pertain to life and godliness [ACTS 2:42; EPHESIANS 2:20; 2 PETER 1:3]. Manuals, confessions of faith, catechisms, disciplines and church covenants that characterize denominational churches are of human origin and are not to be followed by the true child of God.

Her Membership

The Road Creek church of Christ is an open church. What we mean by this is that any that would serve the Lord are welcome as members. We cannot show neither bias nor prejudice and hope to please the Lord. We cannot and do not demand more than the teachings of the New Testament. Neither can, nor do we allow for less than the teachings of the New Testament.

To be a member at Road Creek, one must hear the word of the gospel [ROMANS 10:17; ACTS 18:8] and believe that gospel [MARK 16:16; 1 CORINTHIANS 1:2]. The reason for this is that the gospel is the power to save [ROMANS 1:16]. Upon obtaining faith from hearing the gospel, one is to repent of their sins [ACTS 2:38]. At this point one must confess with their mouth Jesus as Lord [ACTS 8:37; ROMANS 10:10]. It is here that some would stop but we must not. Because one is still lost until they are buried with Christ in baptism [ROMANS 6:4; COLOSSIANS 2:12]. The New Testament teaches that this baptism is to be in water [ACTS 8:36-39; 10:47-48] for remission of sins [ACTS 2:38], to wash away sins [ACTS 22:16] and to save [1 PETER 3:21]. When one does as we have outlined, the Lord adds them to the church [ACTS 2:47] and they become true Christians. They would then be welcomed into the fellowship of the Road Creek church [ROMANS 16:16].

If You Visit Road Creek

We consider all that visit our assemblies as honored guests. It is not our practice to embarrass anyone by an attempt to pressure them into a commitment or an acceptance of that which is preached. No one will coerce you into doing anything that you are not totally convinced is that which the Lord requires. It is not our aim to force our convictions upon others, but to set forth the God given right of the listener to either accept or reject the truth.

As our guests, you will not be expected to make any financial contribution. The collection basket will be passed in the Sunday morning service but that is for the free will offering of the members. The members of this church support our work and no attempt is made to solicit money from non-members.

You will hear the gospel of Christ preached without compromise or apology. The gospel will be presented without the additions or subtractions that are common among the religions of men. The speaker will, to the extent of his ability, preach the truth using only the Bible as his standard of authority.

You will be granted an opportunity to submit questions pertaining to the speaker?s subject and to engage in private study with the speaker if you wish. If you so desire, one of the local evangelists will be willing to set a time for Bible study at your convenience. There will be no attempt on our part to pressure you into anything. You will find nothing more or less, than the gospel of Christ featured as a drawing card. As a church we will provide no programs of entertainment, serve no refreshments, and offer neither door prizes nor any such things. We believe the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation, not the gimmicks of men.

We earnestly solicit your presence and attention in each service and confidently promise that every service will be worthy of your time and effort.
